A Blessing for the Unconvinced
When once again,
despite all evidence before you,
you find yourself unconvinced…
~
When the miracles of last year,
last time, last night cannot be conjured –
will not be cajoled to join you here…
~
May you find the blessings in,
and speak blessings on,
The latest tussle with hallowed disbelief.
~
Be blessed…
as once again you must go seeking.
Be comforted to know…
you are not offending God.
~
Indeed, desire is our DNA,
and
certainly certainty is the greater sin by far.
~
You can revel, pilgrim, in your holy hunger.
You can remember, wanderer, your holy thirst.
You can ready yourself (again)
to reckon with all that waits to be known.
~
So.
~
May your resistance be permeable.
May it protect you from the fragility of old bones.
~
With God as guide and goad…
With query as bride and road…
~
Embrace the faltering first steps.
Enjoy the doubt.
~
And embark, holy fool.
Embark.
