Blessing the Exhaustion of 2 to 4 AM

May God bless these worn-out eyes

discerning through dim light

when specters wake me at witching hours.

~

May God bless these aching arms

tingling numb and prickly roused

as I write my demons to hell.

~

May God bless this knotted neck

protesting my constant slump

over details I swear sustain safety.

~

May God bless this clenching jaw,

releasing each tooth from an angry neighbor

gripping tightly from below.

~

May God bless this weary spirit

working at unwavering love

in a world of hurt and hate.

~

May God bless my fitful sleep with

joints that twitch and turn

in a dance of discontent.

~

And may God bless the rest imposed

each time lassitude

lords over tranquility.
